MARATHON FACT SHEET: Friendship 2010

Q: What is the Marathon?

Our marathon for Non-Public education is Holy Trinity School’s primary fundraiser and is facilitated by the Home and School Association. Each fall, students approach family, friends, and neighbors for pledges in exchange for finishing the marathon walk around Lorraine Park in South St. Paul. This year our Marathon will take place on Friday, October 1, 2010. Our afternoon will begin with a pep rally in the gym and then all students will walk around Lorraine Park for approximately one hour. In the event of rain, the marathon will take place in the corridors of our school.

Q: What does my student need to do?

A pledge sheet with instructions is included in this packet (please contact your child’s teacher if you need a new or additional pledge sheet). Each student should call, email or visit friends, family, neighbors, your co-workers, whomever in an attempt to obtain $195 or more in pledges for their walk. Students are encouraged to make copies of the marathon letter that is included in this packet and mail to out of town friends and family members to request both their financial support and their prayers. Donations are tax-deductible. Each week, pledge amounts are tallied and recorded for each classroom as they compete for the school’s traveling trophy and an out of uniform day the following Monday. Please send the tally sheet back every Monday with your student’s on-going pledge totals.

Q: Are there prizes?

Every student that participates and contributes to the Marathon will receive a prize. Students who reach their individual goal of at least $195 will be eligible for additional prizes that are donated by individuals and families. We ask that each family make a small contribution to be used for the prize pool

Q: When do the funds need to be collected?

Students can begin to collect the funds immediately.  All pledges should be collected on or before Friday, October 29, 2010 to be eligible for prizes.

Q: Where does the money go once it is collected?

100% of the funds collected are retained by Holy Trinity Catholic School and are used to help fund school operations and provide needed equipment or supplies.

Q: What are some previous examples of our Marathon dollars “at work”?

The Home and School Association has used Marathon money to purchase new drinking fountains/coolers, purchased and installed bathroom sinks with electronic eyes, added exit signs and security lights, carpeted classrooms, purchased tables and chairs for classrooms, upgraded the library catalog/check out system, updated the library’s non-fiction collection, supported technology, purchased a new school door, funded field trips to Dodge Nature Center and much, much more! The Home and School Association recognizes and supports our teachers by sponsoring meals for them on conference days and during Teacher Appreciation Week. Home and School also provides refreshments, set up and clean up at school events and sponsors educational seminars for parents.

Q: How can I help?

Encourage and support your student! Help them meet or exceed their pledge goal, obtain a corporate match, donate a prize or two, and help us out with Marathon Planning or on the Marathon Day!
